South Dakota Emergency Medical Services for Children (SD EMSC) works with pre-hospital organizations to ensure children receive the best care possible emergency care. We work to provide agencies across the statewide with the tools and education needed to be pediatric- ready.

SD EMSC is committed to ensuring EMS providers across South Dakota are prepared to deliver excellent pediatric emergency care and improve outcomes for children statewide.
Carter Kit Application
Carter Kits™ Sensory Bags include clinically proven items that help calm and focus children on the autism spectrum, as well as other patients of all ages overwhelmed by traumatic events.
Originally created for first responders, they are now widely used across professions such as law enforcement, school nursing and more.
Satellite Pediatric Bag Request
Applications are now open, with limited availability, for individuals who:

Live 10+ miles from the ambulance garage, and may respond even farther to stabilize patients while waiting for the ambulance to arrive.

Hold a SD BMOE license as an EMR or higher.

Nurses must also be a licensed EMT.

Are affiliated with a SD EMS Agency overseen by a Medical Director.

Are part of a SD EMS Agency that has a Pediatric Champion.
Pediatric Safe Transport
Apply today for the Pediatric Safe Transport kit! This kit includes safe transport devices for all of the ambulances at your service. Only received one safe transport device previously? Now is the time to get the rest of your ambulances outfitted with devices ensuring safe transport of your pediatric patients.
Poison Resources and Education
The Sanford Poison Center provides education and prevention efforts for the State of South Dakota.
We are designated by the South Dakota Department of Health to provide emergency poison management and poison prevention information to the citizens of the State of South Dakota.
The Sanford Poison Center contracts with the Minnesota Regional Poison Center, located at Hennepin Healthcare to handle all exposure calls.
An online education course, with CE credits available, for all providers.
Medical ID | Car Seat Tag
A portable pediatric emergency ID resource that supports readiness in prehospital, ED, disasters and reunification settings.
Use it on car seats, wheel chairs, backpacks, strollers or medical equipment.
Each tag includes a clear adhesive pocket, as well as a two sided insert.

Side 1: Reflective sticker to attract the attention of first responders. This side should be facing out when inserted in the pocket.

Side 2: Emergency contact and medical care information to be completed for the child using the seat or device it is attached to.
